How strong is your character? | Daniel Goleman quotes | Find him on Amazon.
There is an old-fashioned word for the body of skills that emotional intelligence represents: character.
Daniel Goleman
How we treat others and ourselves, deal with situations, fulfill our responsibilities, and prioritize our life, all while maintaining our uniqueness and integrity, defines our character. Each person has a unique combination of these elements, influencing their thoughts, feelings, and actions. And this is nothing but a measure of our emotional intelligence!
How strong is your character?
Our social, moral, and ethical attitude and beliefs are what we term “character.” When we apply these beliefs in certain situations, our character becomes apparent —for example, honesty, integrity, respect, positivity, a sense of responsibility, mindset, etc.
Emotional intelligence is characterized by self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. And all of these are essential aspects of having a good character.
For example:
- Managers can show empathy towards their team members only if they are first aware of their own emotions. They can only build stronger relationships and foster a more supportive work culture.
- It is self-awareness, where individuals can recognize their anxiety in high-pressure situations.
- When you can listen actively to a colleague going through a difficult time and offer words of encouragement, it’s your empathy in action!
The stronger your emotional intelligence, the stronger you can stay true to your individuality!
